There is a very good Spotify podcast called the Age of Napoleon, which details the history of the Corsican, American, and French revolutions. Interestingly, the man behind all three was a young Corsican radical named Pasquale Paoli - two parts Che Guevara and one part Thomas Jefferson (his disciple). In his later years, Paoli became utterly disgusted by the effects of the Reign of Terror and turned into quite the reactionary in his old age, even so much as renouncing the idea of universal suffrage and the right of women to vote. Obviously, what is going down in Gaza right now will probably have much wider historical effects than initially predicted. Unfortunately, I am now old enough to know that whatever new order replaces the old one will probably lead to even greater suffering.
